The Stories and Legends
The OJIBWA Dream Catcher
One of the most beautiful stories in Native American Mythology.
It was once said that in the night air, there are good dreams and negative dreams. The good dreams go through the loop - its centre woven in a web-like pattern - into the one sleeping, while the negative dreams become hopelessly tangled in the web where they perish at the very first light of dawn.
Earth Mother
The circle and protective web around the "Earth" symbolizes, not only our own special relationship with our human mother but also with our Mother Earth. The protective circle is contained within a larger circle depicting the young and the next to be borne. The symbolism is to remind us that we have an inherent responsibility to look after our Mother, the Earth, and that we pass on this responsibility to our children.
